Cheap Eats in Moscow![]() ANNUSHKA Housed on a tram that makes a constant loop around the picturesque Chistyie Prudy area in Moscow, Annushka is a cozy bar and eatery.
DONNA KLARA A few minutes away from Patriarshy Prudy, Donna Klara's comfy window seats, laid-back staff, and selection of sticky cakes make this a cozy place to linger over a bottle of wine. The wine list may not be very big, and the reheated lasagna isn't a delight, but the friendliness makes it all seem like a family eatery in which to relax the afternoon away in Moscow. No credit cards. Metro: Mayakovskaya.
DZHAGANNAT EXPRESS This New Age café is the only respite vegetarians can get in the heavily meat-oriented diners in Moscow. Also known as the Center for Healthy Eating and Living, the restaurant has an Indian-inspired cuisine that is not very spicy by most people's standards. Apart from the curry, the huge salad bar is the best bet, along with the various tofu and dried wheat protein dishes. No alcohol is served (in keeping with the healthful eating ethos), although there is nonalcoholic beer, wine, and champagne. Otherwise try the beet-carrot juice. No credit cards. Metro: Kuznetsky most.
YOLKI-PALKI PO… Yolki-Palki Po… Choose your own ingredients, hand them over to a chef, and see them sizzle on hot Mongolian barbecue plates. Yolki-Palki Po… is a more proletarian fast food version of the normal Mongolian food experience. Situated in Moscow center-city on Pushkinskaya Square, diners eat in a glass building under tribal Mongolian banners. Salads, tasty Russian pies, and Central Asian soups are also on the menu, as is loud, not Mongolian, pop music. It is extremely popular, and lines form outside even in the dead of winter. No credit cards. Metro: Pushkinskaya.
